Edward Weston

Edward Weston

Edward Western, was born in Illinois in 1886, he is considered one of the most innovative photographers of his time. Norton is best known for his bold pictures of natural form, including the human body, vegetation and landscapes. He wasn’t particularly scholarly and dropped out of school early but he attended the Illinois College of Photography, in 1911 he moved to California, where he would spend most of his life.  He began entering photography competitions around L.A and won many prizes but soon became tiered with these easy victories so began to focus on challenging what he can use as artistic subject matter.

Here are some of my favourite photographs of his:

Personally I like Edward Weston’s Photographs because even though sometimes his pictures have such simple subjects he manipulates them to be bold, well composed, and effective and make me appreciate the intricacy and detail in everyday things.

My tips for taking your own Edward Norton inspired photos are:
  • ·       Your subject matter should be something natural that has an interesting form
  • ·       Use black and white to increase the intensity and boldness of the image
  • ·       Look at your subject in an alternative way to produce a picture that makes the person looking at your image think differently.
